Why Republicans Got The Boot

I must disagree with the Talking Heads.  Most people ejected Republicans from power not so much because of Iraq itself, but because they were betrayed by the Republicans on uncontrolled spending, the various scandals, not fighting harder for GWB's judges, almost doing nothing about abortion, gay marriage, not controlling our borders.

What gets me is that all of those are "Republican issues,"  things the Republicans since Reagan are supposed to stand for.  Yet at a time when they had the best chance ever to push those things -- the executive and both houses of the legislature firmly in Republican hands, the Supreme Court gradually swinging more conservative, and the people behind them -- they did nothing!! 

The leaders froze like a deer in the headlights when the Democrats fought back, and they spent most of their time enjoying their power and dithering.  With only a few exceptions Republicans showed that at heart they're just garden variety politicians, playing the political game.  Now that chance is lost.

As one of my favorite radio hosts, Michael Savage, said last night, if you look at all the ballot initiatives around the country you can see that the people are more conservative than ever.  Turning the Republicans out wasn't done because they were swinging liberal, as the Talking Heads say, it was because they are sick of business as usual, of the political game in place of fighting for what's right. 

In his analysis of the exit polling data yesterday Michael Medved pointed out that even those that did vote based on how they felt about Iraq didn't want us to pull out, ithey wanted us to go at the insurrgents whole hog and smash them -- like we started to do in Fallujah, but lost our nerve. 

Now Republican dithering has has cost us any hope of doing anything effective to fight off the forces of terroist chaos for the next 2 years.  Republican dithering has been replaced with the much more pernicious Democrat dithering.  Heaven help us all!

America Looses Its Nerve

Looks like I may not have been pessimistic enough. 

I don't have any interest in trying to interpret prophecy anymore.  But as far as current events go, this is a gigantic disaster.  This was where the American people lost thier nerve when they needed to stand resolute against the "Axis of Evil."  5 years is apparently as long as we can battle chaos these days before we capitulate -- at least when the mainstream media is fighting against the country's best interests rather than for them, as they did in WWII.

And of all the Representatives I can think of to be Speaker, Pelosi has got to be the very worst.  The Montana and Virginia races look like they're going to the Democrats right now, so the Senate is probably lost as well.  Out of all of them, the one I hate most to see go is Rick Santorum.  Pensylvania should be ashamed.  He was rejected simply for standing up for what has always been right.

Now it's just President Bush standing alone.  He's a brave and honorable man, but he's in the business of politics and a lame duck; I doubt there's much more he can do now.  

I think our only hope is that Pelosi and John Kerry and Kennedy, etc. mess things up so much in the next 2 years that it keeps Hillary (or Barak Obama, or whoever) from being elected in 2008.

Doc's Predictions

Well, here we are on one of the milestones on the way either to eventually defeating the forces of Islamic Supremacist chaos or, alternatively, sentencing our descendents to "a 1000 years of darkness" (as Ronald Reagan would say).  I'm feeling moderately pessimistic.

I'm predicting Republicans barely keep control of the Senate but will probably loose their majority in the House.  As far as Governors I only pay attention to the most important state in the Union: Texas, where Perry will win with a plurality.

Now all we can do is pray for a sudden surge of common sense to wash over the electorate.  The turn out of smart vs. stupid people is always the deciding factor.

The Standard

A standard has been planted in our land, a beacon enabling us all to see the issues with clarity -- that "moral clarity" so popular after 9/11.  And that standard is President Bush. 

Mr. Bush has gone beyond being just a President or head of an opposition party to being a living symbol of everything the secular left hates -- God, Christianity, traditional values, free enterprise, reason over emotion, and the military (especially for people John Kerry's age).  He embodies it all for them in a plain, unvarnished form and they react in a livid, almost posessed way.  The way some of the Move On/Michael Moore Democrats react to him reminds me of the way demons are supposed to react to the crucifix or holy water. 

Not that he's in any way perfect or has made all the right decisions -- I disagree with several -- but to me it's almost a sacramental thing.  It's as though he has been set up as one who embodies and acts out these basic truths and people are almost compelled to make their choice, for or against.  I think Mr. Bush's presence on the world stage has shown that the US is divided almost 50/50 between wheat and tares.   And this time, the seed that was sown on rocky ground seems to be showing that they are withering away. 

Although things are tightening up, indications are that the american people may be sick of "moral clarity." I hope not though.  If Congress goes democrat in this election and the Presidency in 2008, Bin Laden and his kind, who are the forces of chaos in this world, just as they were in the Dark Ages, will be able to walk all over us. And then it may be a bit too late to erect a new standard.
